I was born & grew up in London too many years ago and was in a Jewish Socialist youth moment.
As part of a gap year course in Israel back in 1975, I took part in a tour of Gaza and saw first hand the conditions in a refugee camp. It was then I realised that the occupation needs to end and Israel can only be secure when Palestine is free
From 1978 to 1987 I lived in Israel as a member of a Kibbutz halfway between Jerusalem & Tel Aviv. During this time I served as a soldier in the IDF, this included patrolling in occupied Ramallah &, as a reservist, in Lebanon. I also met my wife during this time
Since returning to the UK, I have been living in North Nottinghamshire, brought up my 3 children and went to University to get a job in IT.
Now my children are older, I have became active in the Lib Dems, helping to resurrect the party in my area. I have been the Parliamentary candidate for Bassetlaw twice.
One thing has frustrated me since I joined the Party has been is attitude to finding a solution to the conflict between Palestine & Israel. There are two very active Lib Dem Friends of …. who to me seem to exist to stop the party turning to favour the other side, leaving us with very little to say about how we can help resolve this conflict. I set up LDfPME to change that, to educate the members of the Lib Dems about the many groups working to create a peaceful solution for both Palestinians & Israelis and to change our policy to be more active in supporting them
