Building Bridges for Middle East Peace

Saturday 20th September at 1:00 pm Bournemouth Highcliff Marriot Hotel (as part of the Liberal Democrat Conference)

LDfPME and Solutions Not Sides with Israeli and Palestinian peacebuilders from the region will address reconciliation, practical solutions, and why we need to educate British schoolchildren about the issue.

The two Peace Activists who will be taking part have been confirmed as Adi Berkovits and Hamze Awawde

Adi Berkovits holds a BA in Sociology and Anthropology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an MSc in Human Rights from the London School of Economics. She currently serves as a Project Coordinator and Research Assistant for the Shared Homeland Paradigm project at UCL. Before this, she worked as a researcher on the confederation model for Palestine-Israel as part of the ‘Palestinian-Israeli Union’ project. Her academic work was informed by her work and involvement in social justice movements. Adi has worked as a facilitator and program manager at the Rape Crisis Centre and as a content writer and social media manager for various non-profit organisations. She has also been actively involved in initiatives and movements addressing gender-based violence, human rights, refugee rights, and justice and peace within the Palestinian-Israeli context.

Hamze Awawde has been leading programmes that bring Israelis and Palestinians together for the last 12 years.He leads YaLa Young Leaders, which brings young people together to break down divisions and barriers. He has also worked for the New Story Leadership Programme and has supported many Israeli and Palestinian peace organisations to navigate difficulties working on the ground. Currently, he is the Regional Manager for Hands of Peace in Palestine, which encourages young Israelis, Palestinians and Americans to become changemakers in their societies. He holds a Master’s degree in Community Development from the Hebrew University and a Business degree from Birzeit University.
