Chair – Mohammed Amin

Mohammed Amin MBE

Mohammed Amin’s awareness of the Israel / Palestine issue began with reading about “fedayeen” attacks on Israel in the newspapers in the early 1960’s as a teenager. Being a Muslim, he understandably grew up seeing the conflict primarily from the Palestinian perspective, but even as a 16-year-old Amin recognised that Egypt’s President Nasser had provoked the Six Day War by his actions.

Amin brings an unusual perspective to the conflict, being a Muslim who has read the whole of the Old Testament and about a third of the Mishnah, (as well as much else on Christianity and Judaism), who has visited Auschwitz, twice visited Israel and the West Bank including meeting politicians in the Knesset Building, having had dinner
with the two previous Israeli Ambassadors in London, and being the Muslim Co-Chair of the Muslim Jewish Forum of Greater Manchester.

Amin supports many NGOs engaged with the conflict and Israeli / Palestinian society more generally, including Merchavim, Children of Peace, the Forum for Discussion of Israel and Palestine, Forward Thinking, New Israel Fund, Oasis of Peace, OneVoice Europe, Rabbis for Human Rights, the Abraham Initiatives, Solutions Not Sides, and
Windows for Peace.
